New Harlesden Pub Name Revealed

After we confirmed that Antic London won’t be reusing the Misty Moon name, the pub operator soon after revealed what they plan to call it but then changed their mind, it would appear.

Antic London took to Twitter to introduce Harlesden’s new pub but tweeted 2 different names.

An early tweeter who woke up with the local boozer on their mind (as you do) tweeted at 7am to the pub operator, asking the name for the new pub, in which Antic London replied that it will be called the Harlesden Picture House.

However, a day later, Antic followed up the announcement with a different name, The Harlesden Picture Palace.

Formerly an old cinema, Antic London have decided to pay tribute to the heritage of this building, which has always had ‘Pictue’ in its name:

  • 1912 – Picture Theatre
  • 1915 – Picture Coliseum
  • 2015 – Picture Palace

The last-minute switch from Picture House to Picture Palace might be due to another bit of Harlesden history. On 25 High St Harlesden there once existed a cinema called the Picture House, this isn’t validated but I think the Irish pub, The Shawl might have been it? If you visit The Shawl it definitely looks like it could have been an old cinema.

As the moon dims out of the picture, from the mist emerges a shiny new palace, The Harlesden Picture Palace.
