The forgotten casualties of gentrification

The victims of gentrification that nobody talks about, claims an article published on the news website Mic are cats and dogs.

We asked The Mayhew Animal Home, an animal rescue charity based in NW10 what their thoughts were on gentrification.

The charity confirmed that they are contacted frequently about ‘regeneration’ related issues. A number of factors that can lead to dogs and cats being given up by people no longer able to look after them most recently include:

When girls take selfies at the club.

People buying into new builds where there are no pet policies.

My cat recently had a litter of kittens. I call this one Purrmanently Sad Cat.

Landlords increasing rents to competitive rates, forcing people to give up there pets.

Gentrification has left pets holding the short end of the stick due to the high cost of living in London where people have to make tough decisions. You can donate to The Mayhew via their website.
