Royalty comes to Harlesden

We’ve read a lot of hype in the press recently about what the Harlesden area might become. There’s been all sorts of PR conjuring up of things such as ‘green-tech capital for Europe’ and ‘the Canary Wharf of west London’ so don’t be surprised if you hear the one about the Queen is coming to Harlesden too.

Well, she is, sort of.

Crossrail is to be named Elizabeth Line when the service opens in 2018 and will stop at Harlesden’s Old Oak Common station which will have an interchange with HS2.

The Elizabeth line and HS2 along with 24,000 new homes will carve out the area into a north west London metropolis.

Elizabeth line facts:

  • The Queen was the first reigning monarch to travel by the tube.
  • In 1969 the Queen opened the Victoria line .
  • More than half a million passengers a day are expected to use the Elizabeth line.
  • The project has cost up to £14.8bn.
  • The line is scheduled to open in December 2018.
